Mourning day

National Day of Mourning
In order to express the deep condolences of the people across the country to the victims of the Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan, the State Council decided that May 19-21, 2008 will be a national day of mourning.
During this period, the national and foreign agencies mourned at the lower half of the flag to stop public entertainment activities, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chinese embassies and consulates abroad set up condolence books. At 14:28 on May 19, 2008, the people of the country mourned for three minutes. At that time, cars, trains, and ships honked, and air defense alarms sounded. The people of the whole country stood still and silently.
